Before the name was over the door of one of the UK’s most modern motorcycle showrooms, it was being etched into the history books at 200mph. The story of Phillip McCallen Motorcycles is inseparable from the story of its founder—a true legend of road racing, whose pursuit of excellence continues to define our business today.
For 17 years, Phillip McCallen was one of the most formidable and gifted motorcycle racers in the world. Competing in one of the sport’s most demanding eras, he wasn’t just a participant; he was a dominant force. His career is immortalised by an incredible 11 victories at the Isle of Man TT, the ultimate crucible of rider skill and bravery.
His list of achievements is a testament to his versatility and tenacity: five wins from six starts at the North West 200, numerous British Supersport victories, and his almost unbelievable record of five wins in a single day at the 1992 Ulster Grand Prix. From the Macau Grand Prix to the British Thunderbike series, Phillip proved time and again that he knew what it took to push a machine to its absolute limit and win.
After hanging up his professional leathers, his deep-seated passion for motorcycles didn’t retire with him. It was a natural next step to channel that energy into a new challenge. But he wasn’t starting from a standstill. Having cut his business teeth as a General Manager for the Motorcycle City chain, he had already learned a fundamental business lesson: that true customer service isn’t just about the initial sale, but about a lasting commitment to the rider, ensuring every query is met with swift, personal attention.
Carrying this ethos with him, he opened his first dealership in Lurgan in 2001. His reputation for excellence on the track and his commitment to the customer quickly attracted riders from across Ireland, forging the relationships that would lead to partnerships with world-leading manufacturers.
The Lurgan showroom was a tremendous success. As the business flourished, it attracted the attention of the world’s best brands, leading to an official partnership with Kawasaki in 2005, followed by the Austrian powerhouse, KTM, in 2008.
With this incredible growth, the business was rapidly outgrowing its first home. A bigger vision was needed. In the Spring of 2009, that vision became a reality. We moved, lock, stock, and crankshaft, to our current purpose-built, 12,000 sq ft premises in Lisburn. This state-of-the-art facility was designed to be a true destination for motorcyclists, allowing us to deliver a standard of service and experience that reflects the world-class machines we offer.
